TROOP 6

DELAWARE STATE POLICE - WILMINGTON, DE

To better serve the northern Delaware community, Delaware State Police is revitalizing Troop 6 located near Prices Corner in Wilmington, Delaware. The new campus is state of the art, with nearly 60,000 SF of building space providing a new barracks, maintenance shop, and sally port to further assist troopers in their day-to-day operations.

It’s fitting that Troop 6 be located on the Greenbank Park site, as its history was that of institutional correction. Formerly the site of the New Castle County Workhouse, a reform institution opened in 1901 where as part of an experiment, the inmates were tasked with running the institution.

CDA was contracted by RG Architects to survey, study feasibility and realize building density yields, stormwater analysis and design, site layout and design, utilities coordination and design, and a plethora of other engineering services related to land planning an development. In total the project took approximately 3 years to move from design to fruition. The State OMB authorized more than $58,000,000 to fund the project.

SWM Design

Troop 6 utilizes a Bio-Retention Pond to maintain Stormwater Runoff Quality and Control. As shown in the image above, taken during installation in April 2025, this is the finished product. As the site construction progresses, the form of the pond switches from a construction maintenance pond (as shown on the right) to the finished product shown above. The stone wall in the background is called a forebay and is used to manage the quantity of water being stored in the retention area.
