former home of hibachi!

If you are from the local area, you know that one of Hibachi’s first locations was right here at Astro Center, in Newark, DE 19711. It was also home to the well known Cannon’s Bakery. The property is located in front of the Meadowood neighborhood and across the street from the Western YMCA.

As part of Fusco’s revitalization projects lining the greater Newark area along Kirkwood Highway, this project started in the conceptual stages which did not include the land in which Wawa is situated at this time. Originally, the property ended at Cannon’s Bakery. Through purchases, the professional condominiums and the former gas station were incorporated into the project to supplement the size of site to permit the Wawa to fit with the other planned improvements.

The site is currently home to Wawa, Hooters, Red Wing Shoes, and various other tenants. Fast-food is planned as well.
